Best Golf Rangefinders With Slope | Which Ones Are Worth Considering

Best Golf Rangefinders With Slope | Which Ones Are Worth Considering

Laser Rangefinders’ key purpose is to measure distance to your target. However, over the last few years, manufactures of rangefinders have become more innovative and added more and more technology to their devices.

Slope is one of the most sought after technologies in a laser rangefinder. It’s one of its key advantages that a laser rangefinders can provide over a GPS devices.

What is the Slope Measurement Feature on a Laser Rangefinder?

Best Golf Rangefinders With Slope

A slope edition rangefinder gives you the distance to the flagstick, and the degree of elevation to the target. The change in elevation (Slope) will give you a ‘Play like’ yardage, so you can calculate the right club for the shot based on the yardage and slope.

Are Rangefinders With Slope Legal for Competition Play?

The local rule allows the use of distance measuring devices. These include laser rangefinders, golf GPS watches, handheld GPS devices or Smartphone Apps.

If your rangefinder device measures any other conditions such as Slope, wind speed or plays like features. These features need to be turned off or disabled to make them legal for competition play.

If you are unable to disable these features, your rangefinder device is not legal for competition play. However, they are perfectly legal for practice play.

Best Laser Rangefinders With Slope

I have listed below what I think are the best slope rangefinders. I have offered a mix of styles and prices where you should be able to find one that works for you.

Precision NX7 Pro Slope

The Precision NX7 Pro Slope is one of the coolest looking rangefinders currently on the market. If you read my best laser golf rangefinders post, you will also know it’s my favourite golf rangefinders ever.

The design of this rangefinder is very cool. The bright green face and black/grey finish has a really futuristic style. Precision really took a gamble on this one and didn’t want to be boring.

It comes with a nice and solid carry case, a hook so you can clip it to your bag. It also includes a clean cloth which comes in handy.

Performance

Best slope Rangefinders for golf

The NX7 distances down to a tenth of a yard. An amateur golfer does not need to narrow of a margin but it’s nice to see the accuracy it can provide. The Precision Pro Golf NX7 (Amazon Link) also gives you the option to work in both yards and meters.

What peaked my interest was that the NX7 Pro was the it has a “Pulse” vibration feature when the target was locked on, similar technology to the Bushnell Jolt models.

The pulse technology is a feature that the top Bushnell models use to distinguish themselves. However this rangefinder is nearly half the price of the high end Bushnell models. You don’t see the ‘Pulse’ or ‘Jolt’ technology on many rangefinders for this price. A nice touch from Precision Golf.

The NX7 Pro (SP) is so quick and responsive. It takes less than a second to find the target and then it vibrates once the target is found.

Slope

The Precision NXP Pro has 2 modes, standard mode and slope mode. I like this. They keep it nice and simple.

Too many modes and features can take you away from what you need to focus on that that is yardage. Finding the correct yardage is the key purpose of a rangefinder.

What’s nice about the NX7 Pro is that it displays both the standard yardage on the bottom of the screen and the yardage accounting for slope at the top of the screen. If this annoys you, don’t worry, you can turn the slope function off.

For serious competitors, using the slope function makes it illegal for tournament use, so it’s best to turn it off unless your practicing. The “slope” mode will display the “plays like” yardage, compensating the difference in elevation to the target.

I love this rangefinder. One of the best golf rangefinders with slope in my opinion and it looks so damn cool. But that might just be me.

Pros

  • Excellent value for money
  • 6x magnification
  • Pulse Vibration Technology
  • 2 year warranty
  • Free lifetime battery replacements

Cons

  • Difficult to find the flag if you are blocked out by trees or large slopes.

Bushnell Pro X2

The Bushnell Pro X2 (SP) is one of the best slope rangefinders in golf.  The Pro X2 gives you the opportunity to turn the slope on and off. The basic functionality of the Bushnell Pro X2 is the same as most Bushnell laser rangefinders. Point at your target, push the button, get your distance.

Performance

You can also view the distances in yards or meters. This is handy if you grew up on a course that’s in meters.

The Pro X2 (Amazon Link) will get accurate +/- 0.5 yardages right up to 450 yards. This makes it one of the longest range devices available to buy. Most rangefinders nowadays will only get a max of 400 yards, even the best Bushnell models .

The Pro X2 displays readings in 2 options, Red or Black. This might seem like nothing much, but believe me it helps. Red is usually best, however in a bright setting the red is sometimes be difficult to read.

Like most Bushnell rangefinders, the Bushnell Pro X2 (SP) comes with the cool rangefinder case. Bushnell supply the best rangefinders cases hands down. The Bushnell cases are strong, durable, nicely designed.

But what makes the X2 one of the best Bushnell rangefinders is how easy you can turn on and off the slope. Simply flip the switch on the side and your laser rangefinder is competition legal.

The ease of switching between standard and slope modes makes this one of the best rangefinders with slope for golfing. Simply flick the Bushnell logo in the middle and it enables/disables slope

One of The Best Rangefinders With Slope

The Bushnell Pro X2 is one of the best Bushnell rangefinders for a number of reasons. It performs its key responsibilities so well but the additional features make you want this rangefinder. The slope switch is a feature is excellent and option to read in Red or Black adds a nice touch.

The Bushnell rangefinders just attract attention. Having one of these clipped onto your golf bag will make your playing partners jealous.

Bushnell Tour V4 Shift

Credit: Bushnellgolf.com

There are two versions of the Tour V4. The standard version vs the slope addition. If you’re reading this article you are most likely interested in the Slope Edition.

The Slope version has a red front that will measure both yardages and slope but will cost a little more than the standard version. The Bushnell Tour V4 Slope is one of the best rangefinders with slope available.

Overall the Bushnell Tour V4 Shift (SP) is an excellent laser rangefinder, one of the best slope rangefinders on the market. The V4 Slope is a more compact upgrade from the V3 model.

The Tour V4 Slope is the perfect combination of speed, performance and design to make it one of Bushnell’s best rangefinders.

Performance

Bushnell says that the Tour V4 Slope (SP) will pick out a flag at up to 400 yards away and larger objects over 1000 yards away.

The JOLT technology works well. As soon as you lock onto the flagstick, the V4 will JOLT. The JOLT feature is one of the big rangefinders features that was copied by many other manufacturers since.

At distances over 250 or 300 yards you do need a steady hand to maybe check the yardage. However I don’t know about you but I don’t try and hit many greens from 250-300 yards out.

Slope

When you turn the slope on, it displays the degree difference and slope adjusted yardage right below the actual yardage. It made it easy to view and worked well.

I think the Tour V4 Slope version is a worthy upgrade and is the one to go for because it will add more value to your game.

One thing that must be mentioned is Bushnell’s customer service. If you feel your Tour V4 Slope is not performing as well as expected, you can contact them and ask for a replacement. Usually they are pretty understanding and will replace it at ease.

PROS

  • Great Size and Weight
  • Slope can be turned on and off making it tournament legal.
  • Pin seeking technology
  • JOLT technology
  • 5x Magnification – brings the target in closer.

CONS

  • Accuracy and Reliability an issue long term

The TecTecTec Vpro 500S (Check Price On Amazon) performs amazing when you consider how much it costs.

Tectectec upgraded the performance of the VPro 500 models in 2019 to compete with other rangefinders, but kept the same model and design as it was so popular.

It has a great yardage range right up to 540 yards with 1 yard accuracy. It has quick readings, long range yardages and a slope feature. Which is amazing. You also have the option to use yards or meters.

TecTecTec also upgraded their pin seeker technology. It works much faster and is more accurate. It works like other rangefinders scan mode by overlapping subjects like hazards and trees and locating the flag stick.

With quick, accurate readings and and having the added slope feature you really are getting one of the best slope rangefinders available and at an amazing price.
