About TheGolfingLad
Who We Are
Hi, I’m Henry Ships — a lifelong golfer, gear obsessive, and the person behind TheGolfingLad. I’ve been playing golf for over 15 years, spending more weekends than I can count on courses across the country, and even more time in the garage testing clubs, bags, rangefinders, and just about every gadget the golf industry throws at us.
TheGolfingLad exists because I got tired of reading reviews that felt like they were written by someone who had never actually gripped a 7-iron. Most buying guides online are shallow, recycled, or quietly pushing whatever pays the highest commission. That’s not what golfers deserve — and it’s not what you’ll find here.
Our Mission
We’re here to help golfers at every level make smarter buying decisions. Whether you’re a 28-handicapper just getting into the game or a scratch golfer obsessing over shaft flex, our goal is simple: give you honest, detailed, and genuinely useful gear recommendations so you can stop guessing and start playing better.
We cover drivers, irons, wedges, putters, golf bags, rangefinders, GPS watches, training aids, and more. Every category we write about is one we’ve personally spent time with — not just read about.
How We Review Products
We take our review process seriously. Here’s how it works:
- Hands-On Testing: Every product we recommend has been tested on the course or on the range. We don’t speculate. If we haven’t hit it, we don’t review it.
- Side-by-Side Comparisons: We regularly pit competing products against each other — same conditions, same tester — so our comparisons are apples-to-apples, not marketing copy vs. marketing copy.
- Real-World Use: We test gear across multiple rounds and in different conditions. A rangefinder that works in bright sunshine but fails in overcast light isn’t a great rangefinder. We’ll tell you that.
- Long-Term Updates: Gear wears. Grips slip. Bags lose zippers. We revisit products over time and update our reviews to reflect how they hold up — not just how they perform out of the box.
A Note on Affiliate Links
TheGolfingLad is reader-supported. Some of the links on this site are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you purchase through them — at absolutely no extra cost to you. We partner primarily with Amazon, and any commission we earn helps keep the lights on and the gear testing funded.
Our editorial recommendations are never influenced by affiliate relationships. If a product isn’t worth your money, we’ll say so. Full stop.
